Questions
What exactly gets removed?
Tracking parameters — the extra bits companies append to URLs to follow you across the web, like ?utm_source=newsletter, ?fbclid=... or ?gclid=.... urlwright strips 40+ known trackers plus whole families (anything starting with utm_, pk_, etc.). Functional parameters like search terms, video IDs and page numbers are always kept.
Will the cleaned link still work?
Yes. Tracking parameters are purely decorative from the page's point of view — they exist for analytics, not for the content to load. We never remove parameters the page needs, so the destination is identical.
What about shortened links like bit.ly?
urlwright cleans the parameters on any URL you paste, shortened or not. It doesn't expand shorteners (that would require phoning a server, which would defeat the privacy point), and it unwraps Facebook and Google redirect wrappers automatically.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The entire sanitizer runs in your browser. No account, no analytics on your links, no server logs — there isn't even a server involved in cleaning.
Why not just use a browser extension?
Extensions need installing, updating, and broad permissions. urlwright is a web page — it works on any device with a browser, including phones, with nothing to install.
